As a library employee and as an employee of the City of San Antonio I’m expected to be familiar with the city’s website and I am. I have helped many people browse job vacancies, locate the nearest park, and contact City Council representatives.
One government website I found helpful was the election precinct locator. I think this site will come in handy during election time since the majority of the questions I’m asked is, “where do I vote?” I think mobile technology definitely brings the citizens of San Antonio closer to its government and other city departments. And I believe, in time, once people learn to use it, they will be more interested and active in their city’s government and other departments.

Most of the titles I searched for were in either OverDrive or OneClickdigital, but not on both. OneClick’ had Charlaine Harris eAudiobooks, but not OverDrive. Overdrive seemed to have more eBooks than eAudiobooks. I found both easy to use, but I personally use OverDrive more for the eBooks.

Social media can be a good thing. It allows people to connect and share details of their lives. But it can also have it’s negatives. Besides cyber bullying another negative aspect of social media is it’s ability to damage reputations. Reputation may not be important to some people, but what if it’s a business. All it takes is a few negative comments by unhappy vindictive people to cause damage. The worst part is it may not be true. And with anonymity things become harder to solve.

My first social media experience was with Hi5. At that time I thought it was so cool to contact the friends I haven’t seen since high school. I moved to MySpace shortly after. And now I use Facebook. Social media has given me the chance to keep in touch with old friends and most importantly family, especially those who live outside of San Antonio and outside of the country. My aunts and uncles and grandparents are able to stay updated with me.

Author Readalikes is always helpful to readers, especially to fans of a particular author or genre. The GED Testing LibGuide is perfect for our patrons who use our Learn@SAPL center.

I think these two LibGuides are important to libraries with smaller staff because staff at these libraries tend to do more than one thing. Circulation staff helps out at Reference and vice versa. These guides will help keep staff informed.
